Student Tuition Scholarships

In Tanzania, an education beyond primary school (like grades 1-6 in American public schools) is considered a “privilege,” not a “right.” We started supporting kids at Kikatiti Secondary School in 1999, when 63 students were attending classes in a building with dirt floors and no electricity. Now, the current enrollment is approximately 350 as we try to rebuild our student count to the optimum level of 600 students which was common before the current terrible economic conditions hit our families. Their books, uniforms, and tuition expenses all come at a high cost to parents. We strongly feel any dedicated child should have an opportunity to learn, no matter their ability to pay tuition. Your gift can make it possible that each student can have a chance to attend school, graduate and pursue their dream to move beyond a life of poverty.

Water Purification Infrastructure

In 2012 we began researching drinking water issues on the school’s campus precipitated by very excessive levels of natural fluoride in the school’s drilled well that made that water totally unsafe to drink. This intensive study and fundraising resulted in the eventual installation of a groundbreaking water purification system in 2019 that now provides safe and adequate drinking water for the students. We continue our financial support to maintain and expand the necessary infrastructure and expensive equipment needed to remove the dangerous fluoride from the water supply.

General Operating Expenses

Now more than ever our efforts to assist with general operating expenses at the school are critical. Our teachers provide an invaluable service and resource to students of Kikatiti Secondary School. Their cultural competency along with their care for students makes all the difference. With your support we can provide continuing education to hone their teaching skills, as well as provide educational materials, including improvements to computer technology.

One Student’s Journey

This former student at Kikatiti Secondary School had an opportunity to go to school because of our support. After completing his studies at Kikatiti Secondary School (Forms I-IV), he completed the required Forms V and VI at another school (At the time Kikatiti Secondary School couldn’t offer Forms V and VI, but it will starting in July of 2023). Then he was able to earn his university degree before returning to Kikatiti Secondary School to become a teacher.
